Reports are prepared in accordance with the established guidelines given by the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC), the authoritative body responsible for supervising Specialist Assessors with Assessment Practicing Certificates. These reports must adhere to SASC guidelines and encompass several key sections:
Overview including diagnostic outcome
Background, Health & Development, Educational History and Current Situation, which is detailed across multiple relevant subheadings
Testing explanations and findings
Confirmation of diagnostic decision
Recommendations
Appendices
Typically, these reports are around 25-30 pages in length and provide a detailed insight into your child’s learning profile. Once the report is finalised, it can be shared with your child's school and other relevant professionals. This can be used to help in the planning of the support that your child will receive.
Additionally, a diagnostic report can serve as part of the evidence required to apply for an Educational Health Care Plan.
In the future, should your child transition to university, the report can be used to support their application for assistance through the Disabled Students Allowance.

How the report recommendations are implemented largely depends on the specific school. My evaluations include various suggestions that could support your child and most schools are keen to implement strategies where possible. However, some recommendations may incur higher costs and it is important to note that schools typically do not receive additional funding specifically for newly diagnosed dyslexic students, which may limit their ability to address all recommendations at once. Should you find that the assessment report is being overlooked, your report is supported by the Equality Act 2010, and you have the option to approach your local council's Special Educational Needs (SEN) department regarding this.
-
I operate independently from your child’s school and I use an extensive array of assessments that typically may not be available to them. My reports include recommendations for examination accommodations based on my observations and findings; however, the authority to implement these arrangements lies solely with your child’s school.
-
A few days after the assessment, I will schedule a call with you to give some initial feedback on my findings which is included in the assessment fee.
I aim to respond to further email queries following the initial feedback call and the publishing of your child’s report but my ability to respond to these with clarity is better if the assessment has been carried out more recently. Please note that any further calls or meetings are chargeable at my normal hourly rate of £60p/h.
